Coffee enemas offer many health benefits if you can get over the taboo that seems to accompany all things rectal. Coffee enemas can improve energy levels, gut motility, and the frequency of bowel movements. They’ve personally helped me remove mucoid plaque stuck from my colon walls, along with candida, and even rope worms.

While I repeatedly say that we’re living in an increasingly toxic world, I don’t want it to lose its value. This is not to be taken lightly.  The fact that Western medicine does not currently consider the chemical body burden is a huge oversight and disconnect. What is the value of a Ph.D. if you haven’t even studied nutrition and work in a facility (hospital) that serves mac and cheese and iceberg lettuce and calls that lunch?

Detoxing today is necessary. I consider myself blessed to have discovered coffee enemas and to be able to share my information.

Coffee enemas also helped improve my energy levels (both physically and mentally), obliterated bloating, ameliorated my mood, and helped me reduce my toxic load after being exposed to pesticides on three occasions.

You can find many groups on Facebook, for instance, like Bottoms Up, where people credit coffee enemas for helping them with their chronic symptoms.  Yet despite all these positive aspects and unparalleled empirical data, naysayers classify coffee enemas as  “junk science.” Before relegating coffee up your rear as quackery, consider that there is a dearth when conducting independent research/studies. Western medicine is more invested in managing disease, and most science these days is conducted by Big Pharma and is motivated by money. Did you know that coffee enemas used to be in the Merck Manual, a thick book that physicians used as their primary reference for decades?

Throughout the centuries, numerous cultures, such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Hindus, Chinese, and Sumerians, have used enemas. “Even the Dead Sea Scrolls, which may have been written while Jesus walked this earth, outline the significance of daily enemas for overall well-being,” writes Liveblood. Then, during WWI, it was remarked that the enemas resulted in marked pain relief in patients. In the 1920s, another German M.D., Max Gerson, took note of the above findings and later incorporated coffee enemas as an integral part of his diet-based cancer therapy.

The main purpose of a coffee enema is not to irrigate the colon to alleviate constipation, as one might think. Rather, it is to support the liver in eliminating toxins and cleansing the blood. The liver is our most important organ for detoxifying and regenerating our metabolism. It serves some 500 functions, including drug processing and clearing toxic metabolites.

Getting On Through To The Other Side

Throughout the years, I have outlined my healing journey, which ostensibly started when I was hit by a Ford Explorer at 30 miles an hour and dragged 49 feet.  In my eBook, I outline a lot of the amazing things that helped me heal after I was sprayed with pesticides on three occasions and later diagnosed with an autoimmune condition.

Despite a holistic protocol that included a metabolomic panel to identify deficiencies, the Greek Aegean Sea, glutathione IV, supplements, and Vitamin C, it was imperative that I let the toxins out. Let’s not forget that I also contended with Epstein-Barr viral load. I strongly believe that that the coffee enemas I conducted twice a week for the past year and a half have been integral in bringing down my Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) levels associated with the autoimmune condition Lupus. The enemas reinvigorated my liver and gut, enabling these organs to do their jobs.

When I got sprayed with pesticides, I told my doctor straight out, “Do you think that the spray had anything possibly to do with the fact that I am now suffering from an autoimmune condition?”

She said “No.”

She sent me home with samples of Cymbalta and the promise of a steroid prescription if the pain became unbearable. I let the bottles sit on the shelf for about a year. There were some days that I was so fatigued and the pain so fuckin’ unbearable that I considered the drugs. Right before I started the enemas, I actually did guinea pig myself. I lasted for four days. Taking that Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) was like someone taking a shredder against my intestines. Given my proclivity for all things natural, it was out of character for me to take an SSRI, but I was experiencing such brutal connective tissue pain, and my brain was being enveloped in some sort of web-like fog; challenging to say the least.

Consider that to the Epstein-Barr virus, toxins are like a smorgasbord. I have personally suggested to several friends and customers to use coffee enemas to help with a high viral load of EBV.

“I’ve been suffering from a pretty treacherous myriad of Epstein Barr induced auto-immunity for two years, experimenting frantically to slow the disease process down and gather clues about exactly what organs and systems to target with what measures,” says Ryan Michael Ballow, entrepreneur of a Nootropic called Cortex.

Trying coffee enemas gave me a major clue into the impaired state of my liver detox pathways. Literally minutes after my first one I felt better than I have in MONTHS. This was a MAJOR discovery that helped set me on my path to targeting my liver for functional optimization, to take me back to health again.

A sluggish liver can cause all sorts of ailments. One added benefit of coffee enemas is that they promote the production of glutathione by the liver. A powerful antioxidant defense system, glutathione protects against cellular damage to DNA and stimulates the removal of toxic waste out of cells.

Doctors at the University of Minnesota showed that coffee administered rectally also stimulates an enzyme system in the liver called glutathione S-transferase by 600-700 percent above normal activity levels. This enzyme, according to Max Gerson, M.D., reacts with free radicals (which cause cell damage) in the bloodstream and makes them inert. These neutralized substances dissolve in the bile, are released through the bile flow from the liver and gallbladder, and are excreted through the intestinal tract. A Gerson patient holds the coffee enema in the colon for 12-15 minutes. During this time, the body’s entire blood supply passes through the liver 4-5 times, carrying poisons picked up from the tissues. So, the enema acts as a form of dialysis of the blood across the gut wall.

Rectal coffee turns out to be very effective for bile flow. Rectal administration of caffeine also dilates bile ducts instead of being reabsorbed from the small intestine up to 10 times before leaving through the feces, it passes through the gut and exits through the colon straight away, expelling all carried toxins in the process, thereby easing the body’s toxic burden quicker (Gerson & Walker 2006). Incidentally,  that caffeine absorption from enema is 3.5 times less than that from orally taken coffee.

This proves especially beneficial in the presence of endogenous* serum toxins, which may arise from bacteria, damaged cells, and cancer cells. *[endogenous: self-generated, originating from the body’s own metabolism vs exogenous: originating from external sources; this includes xenobiotics, see below]

A coffee enema lowers the blood serum’s toxic load, contributing to improved physiological function. It also lowers a cell’s challenge resulting from low oxygen levels, malnutrition, and toxins (Gerson & Walker 2006).

Maximum Release: My Year Of Weekly Coffee Enemas

I get it. You may be reluctant. Who wants to deal with the possibility of getting crap all over the place? But given the minimal mess, it’s an empowering, cost-effective treatment that actually yields results. I read an article from a woman who said she carves this time out as an opportunity for self-care, which is needed when dealing with chronic illness and workaholism. I decided to take matters into the bathtub.

Yes, in the beginning, there were a few spills and sprays, so I made sure to prep beforehand, and it’s gotten easier as I’ve become less toxic and my sphincter got accustomed. I laid out my yoga mat, added an old towel on top, and then topped it off with absorbent pads to mitigate any mess.  It’s normal to struggle to hold the liquid for up to 15 minutes at first. I have now developed a ritual where I do 3 or 4 enemas back to back, holding between 11 to 16 oz. for 15 minutes each, and ending with a clear enema and added sea salt. Find your own ritual. I also listen to Marianne Williamson’s live stream or David Asprey’s podcast. So, in my mind, I am letting the positivity in while I let the s*** and poisons out.

You want to make sure you use an organic coffee versus a mainstream coffee that is loaded with toxins or is moldy; that kind of defeats the purpose.

It’s important to specify as well that it’s best to use “green beans,” which means that they are uncooked. They are raw and look green. Purelife, for instance, offers an Ultra Light Roast, which is as close to green beans as you can get. It is a light gold color, but since green beans cannot be put into a grinder, as they are so hard and would damage the equipment, the beans are cooked a little. The Ultralight offers more palmitic acid and caffeine.

The coffee enema process is painless and can become rather addictive. If you are super toxic, you may feel queasy during the point of release. Just be thankful all that poison is exiting your body. Looking back, I was certainly more toxic during my first year of enemas.

Coffee enemas also stimulate the vagus nerve, a long, meandering bundle of motor and sensory fibers that links the brainstem to the heart, lungs, and gut. It also branches out to touch and interact with the liver, spleen, gallbladder, ureter, female fertility organs, neck, ears, tongue, and kidneys. It powers up our involuntary nerve center — the parasympathetic nervous system – and controls unconscious body functions, as well as everything from keeping our heart rate constant and food digestion to breathing and sweating.

To optimize your coffee enema, make sure you replenish your electrolytes and minerals! I drink coconut water that I infuse with chia seeds, charcoal, and chlorella to bind to the toxins that may get kicked up.

If you get over any initial dread, I guarantee coffee enemas can help improve the quality of your life. I have turned on about five people, and they all reported feeling a lot better.

  1. Caffeine is a best natural nootropic. Caffeine can improve chess play in similar way to synthetic cognitive enhancing drugs: modafinil, methylphenidate (Professor Klaus Lieb, University of Mainz, Germany)

  2. Exceptional post on an incredible topic.

I too joined the c-enima club after realizing some very problematic things related to my liver and detox system and after having tried all kinds of other healing approaches to my problems. The results were off the charts. Like you I did it weekly for a while and I now do it about 1-2 a month for maintenance and more if I start to have other issues. I can feel my toxic load now and know when it can benefit. You indicated you do 3-4 back to back… I do 2 back to back. Total fluid for me is 4 cups of coffee (32 ounces) and I split that into two batches. I have a clear bucket vs the metal shown. SA Wilsons out of canada sells it. That makes it easier to see when approximately half of the four cups have been consumed. I also have the bucket strap so it can be hung from door knob or cabinet knob. Big help. A towel on the floor in bathroom with a pillow and a light blanket works for me. I was instructed to lay on right side when doing it. There are logical reasons for that but it is much harder to hold the fluid due to the increased stimulation (or something). I will often do the first session on my back to try to get closer to the optional 8-12 minutes and then I may try my right side on second pass, but will roll to back if the stimulation is too much. I also listen to podcasts/music during the process. The power of this process is astounding and second to none that I’ve found to date. There are many healers who do this with cancer patients and swear by it.
