Honey benefits health in so many ways! It has been called “liquid gold” since ancient times because there are hundreds of medicinal, therapeutic, cosmetic, and culinary uses for honey.

We love the infographic below from Preparing for SHTF, which outlines six health benefits of honey that not only work well, but also help reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals in mainstream products.

Six Useful Ways Honey Benefits Health:

1. Mosquito Bite Home Remedy

Honey is a natural anti-inflammatory, which makes it good for reducing itch and irritation caused by mosquito bites. Just dab it on the affected area.

2. Natural Performance Enhancer

Honey has been shown in some studies to be superior to artificial sugars and sugar in maintaining glycogen levels and improving recovery time after exercise. Use it instead of sugar in your coffee or smoothie, or drink it in a pre- or post-workout recovery tonic.

3. Wound and Burn Relief

Because honey has natural antibacterial properties, you can use it on scrapes and small wounds to help prevent infection and aid healing.

4. Immune System Booster

Honey is full of polyphenols, an antioxidant that supports the immune system and protects cells from free radical damage.

5. Helps Treat Ulcers

Recent research shows that honey may have a positive effect on ulcers and bacterial gastroenteritis caused by H. Pylori. Experts suggest taking a tablespoon of raw honey in the morning and another one in the evening.

6. Sore Throat and Cough Remedy

This is an age-old home remedy, but recent studies also shows that honey helps with coughs (especially buckwheat honey).
