On Valentines Day, a bill, Senate File 194, was introduced, requiring the labeling of genetically engineered food in the Hawkeye State.

The legislation was drafted with the support of Food & Water Watch, a consumer advocacy group and was supported food cooperatives, organic farmers, environmentalists, and food justice proponents.

“Right now, consumers are in the dark about whether or not the food they buy and feed to their families is genetically engineered,” said Matt Ohloff, Iowa organizer for Food & Water Watch.
