About Vanishing of the Bees
Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has created a crisis among beekeepers in an industry responsible for pollinating our country’s apple and cherry trees, broccoli, watermelons, and onions, and hundreds of other fruit- and vegetable-bearing plants. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.
Vanishing of the Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the United States. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capitol Hill and cross the Pacific Ocean in a quest to protect their honeybees.
Vanishing of the Bees is a film every concerned citizen should watch.
Filming throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia, this documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater portents concerning the relationship between humans and Mother Earth this terrifying phenomenon makes unignorable. As scientists puzzle over the cause of CCD, organic beekeepers offer alternative hypotheses for the loss of their bees and livelihoods. Conflicting opinions abound, and after years of research, a definitive solution to this harrowing mystery has yet to surface.
