Using a highly concentrated, naturally derived form of tryptophan from USDA organic, and cold-pressed pumpkin seeds, ZenBev is an all-natural anti-anxiety sleep aid drink mix that’s been clinically proven to treat both anxiety and insomnia.

Developed by physician, Dr. Craig Hudson, this anxiety sleep aid is a propriety formula and the only product on the market we know of that uses the brain’s own chemistry to relieve anxiety and preserve natural sleep architecture by fostering five stages of the natural sleep cycle.

This is because ZenBev does not override the brains natural sleep chemistry, as is the case with prescription drugs and supplemental melatonin, which often suppress deep sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). On the contrary, the naturally derived tryptophan contributes to the body’s own production of melatonin, thereby helping enhance all five sleep cycles and producing a longer, deeper sleep.

This process can be better understood with an explanation of precisely how light-sensitive Tryptophan is metabolized in the body.

Essential Amino Acid, Tryptophan

Being an essential amino acid, tryptophan is not created by the human body, and can only be obtained via diet. Tryptophan is the catalyst that releases the mood regulator, serotonin, first breaking down into Niacin, and then serotonin, which thereafter metabolizes into the sleep regulator, melatonin.

Since tryptophan metabolizes differently in light vs. dark conditions, ZenBev makes for an ideal dual-purpose anti anxiety sleep aid. Taken during the day, Serotonin becomes the active ingredient, while during nighttime hours, melatonin is at work in the brain.

But once exposed to daylight, melatonin begins to dissipate.

Natural food sources for tryptophan include eggs, tofu, salmon, and nuts/seeds. But it is the humble gourd seed which has shown to have the most powerful concentration of tryptophan.

By itself, tryptophan competes with its brethren amino acids and often reaches the brain later than other aminos. However, when ingesting a tryptophan-rich food with carbohydrates, insulin production is triggered, which in turn, eliminates many of the amino acids that would otherwise win out over tryptophan. This is what makes ZenBev anxiety sleep aid highly effective — combined with a high glycemic index carbohydrate, the ZenBev’s tryptophan isolate is able to reach the brain in potent form.

Pumpkin seeds by themselves would not be able to achieve the same effect, as they contain many of the competing amino’s that would otherwise mitigate the amount of protein-bound tryptophan able to bypass the blood brain barrier. The addition of a carbohydrates in a precise measurement prioritizes tryptophan over other amino acids.

Fine Tuning Melatonin

As mentioned, the first stage of metabolizing tryptophan results in niacin, followed by serotonin conversion. The “happy” neurotransmitter, serotonin contributes to a wide array of functions, including nerve cell transmission, smooth muscle constriction, and most notably, its ability to maintain mood balance, hence its use for treating depression. This is where the anti anxiety benefits of ZenBev come into play, without getting sleepy. And although serotonin is the precursor to melatonin (which is light sensitive), if taken during the day, the metabolization of serotonin into melatonin is mitigated due to melatonin’s light sensitivity.

If, however, ZenBev is taken during the night, the resulting melatonin is available for the brain to regulate. This is where the sleep aid component of ZenBev comes into play. This essential benefit is what sets ZenBev apart from other anxiety sleep aids. By allowing the brain to naturally convert serotonin into melatonin (as opposed to melatonin supplementation), the body’s sleep architecture is preserved, resulting in a more natural sleep pattern that taps all five cycles. This also prevents the potential of tryptophan dependency, which has been seen with synthetic tryptophan supplementation.

In fact, the FDA once banned pharmaceutical-grade tryptophan. While that ban has since been lifted, and tryptophan is now available by prescription, studies have shown that high dose tryptophan can actually disrupt sleep architecture and have been associated with the potentially fatal eosinohpilia myalgia syndrome (EMS).

Is there a risk of becoming dependent?

While most sleep aids are associated with dependency, this is due to overriding the brain's natural brain chemistry -- an artificial disruption to the body's natural sleep architecture. ZenBen works with the brain's natural sleep chemistry, as opposed to overriding the brains ability to regulate melatonin.

Are there side effects?

The onset of sleep will naturally produce a feeling of drowsiness. However, during daytime hours, this will subside due to the light sensitivity of melatonin. Since ZenBev uses a high glycemic index carbohydrate in the formulation, diabetics should be aware that two tablespoons has the carbohydrate equivalency to a single slice of toast. ZenBen should not be used with additional serotonin supplementation, such as St. John's Wort, or with prescribed anti-depressants. For those who have B-vitamin deficiency, it is advised to supplement with a B-complex multivitamin as tryptophan will metabolize to vitamin B3 if ones body is deficient.

Can ZenBev be used every day/night?

Yes, however, since there is a positive lasting effect, dosage intervals can be incorporated. For example, taking for 5-7 days/nights, following by 2-3 days/nights of abstinence will continue to deliver a positive effect.

How long does it take to work?

Since ZenBev works with the brains natural chemistry and naturally coaxes the body to metabolize tryptophan, it can take a few doses before the desired effect is achieved. Since no two people have the same exact biochemistry, it is recommended to take for a full week before gauging it's full impact.
